What is COASTAL Style?
Coastal is a design style used in both Classic and Contempo homes and is identifiable by its perfectly relaxed, unassuming style, paying homage to its natural environment.
Drawing upon a natural palette inspired by the water, sand, shells, and local vegetation, the goal is to create a light and breezy home accented with natural, sometimes weathered materials to achieve an effortless and calm atmosphere.
COASTAL Substyles
The four substyles of Contempo are: Beach House, Bahamas, Modern Coastal & American Beach House.
Beach House
One of our most popular styles, the Beach House style evokes a light, airy feel, just like the vibe you would get whilst enjoying a beachside holiday. Expansive window and glass use throughout every room is important as is the connection to weathered timber, cladding and natural flooring.
Get the look with things like:
- Crisp white walls with pops of blue hues.
- Wide open windows and glass doors.
- Light timber tones and paneling.

Bahamas
Infuse a bit of beachy flair into your home with tropical style, which combines influences from various locations like Hawaii, Bali, Fiji, Thailand and French Polynesia.
Get the look with things like:
- Tropical decor like shells and palm trees.
- Timber accents and features.
- Warm-tone lighting.

Modern Coastal
Living a Modern Coastal style means connecting with or being surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural environments which evoke calmness and coolness. Glass is a major part of a modern coastal look, even if you don’t have the luxury of looking at the ocean there is still a connection to the outside required.
Get the look with things like:
- Use natural materials for feature furniture, e.g. timber.
- Neutral palette with one feature colour (typically green or blue).
- Rattan furniture and decor throughout the space.

American Beach House
American Beach Houses are famous for their look and thanks to stunning locations like Maine, Cape Cod, The Hamptons and Long Island this style will continue as a go-to style.
Get the look with things like:
- Aim for neutral interiors with pops of rich navy and royal blue colours.
- Incorporations of red and white.
- Bright white furniture.
