$650,000 raised for Children’s Cancer Institute!
Last Sunday 21 October, the Cambridge home at The Bower went under the hammer to fundraise for the Children’s Cancer Institute. It wasn’t long before the Build for a Cure home was sold by Auctioneer Damien Cooley from The Block, snapped up by Alan and Narelle Grace from Corlette.
Narelle has had experience with cancer in the past and has unfortunately been diagnosed with bone cancer making this auction even more important to them.
“Cancer research is something that is very close to us,” Alan said. “We came without a great expectation of actually succeeding, but we’re very happy to have won on the day.”
Not only has the Cambridge been furnished by freedom furniture, Winning Appliances and Fisher & Paykel, the lucky new owners will also enjoy the amazing styling of the MyChoice Design Studio interior designers.
“This house is a modern take on luxury interiors, combing timelessly classic styles with the most beautiful materials and sophisticated detailing,” Hunter MyChoice Design Studio Manager Sophie Devos explained.
This auction signifies an end to our fourth year partnering with Children’s Cancer Institute for Build for a Cure, a cause close to the heart of all the McDonald Jones team. Over $650,000 has been raised this year, with Kloster Mitsubishi and Auto Advantage’s donation of a Mitsubishi ES Mirage Hatchback up for raffle also adding to the funds raised.
The money raised will help further advance the world-class research the Children's Cancer Institute undertakes as they strive to find a cure for childhood cancer. Plus, this year we are delighted to announce that the CCIA will allocate $100,000 from the amount raised to research for Dr Matt Dunn, a world-renowned cancer researcher based in Newcastle at the Hunter Medical Research Institute. Matt’s leading research and focus on finding a cure is even more personal as his young daughter has been unfortunately ravaged by a rare type of cancer, and her prognosis is one that no child or family should have to endure.
We would like to thank everyone involved, including the McCloy Group who set the foundations for the build, donating a 700m2 block of land at The Bower, Medowie. With a team of willing and able tradies working around the clock, meat to keep them going donated by Eastley’s Butchery at East Maitland and the wonderful team from Kurri Kurri Rotary who generously fed the masses, the Build for a Cure home went from slab to house in 21 days.
We’re excited to see what next year brings and are thrilled with what a couple of bricks and a whole lot of love can achieve.
