What is CONTEMPO Style?
Exciting and appealing, the Contempo style borrows from many periods to pull together a home that reflects your unique style while remaining striking and practical. A modern look that is constantly evolving which embraces balance and functionality across your favourite elements.
CONTEMPO Substyles
The four substyles of Contempo are: Modern, Minimalist, Mid-Century Modern & Scandi.
Modern
The focus of modern homes is simplicity. This style has the base principles of the overarching Contempo syle. This style suits many people as it has an on-trend element but also can mix furniture items from different modern eras as this is most people’s comfort zone.
Get the look with things like:
- Crisp white walls with contrasting feature walls.
- Black fixtures to add dramatic accents to tap and hardware.
- Warm timber tones and paneling.

Minimalist
Minimalist homes are free of any clutter, they only contain key pieces of furniture that are essential for functional living. Minimalist interiors have a focus on simplicity, essentially the dream of any Marie Kondo fan. Rooms are generally monochromatic, usually featuring muted neutrals, soft greys, and whites.
Get the look with things like:
- Bright white and neutral colours.
- Timber accents and features.
- Cool-toned corner lamps for lighting.

Mid-Century Modern
Mid-century-modern design is still popular today for many reasons. Its characteristics make it a perfect fit for today's contemporary, modern, and eclectic home décor styles. With its clean lines and cool vibe, mid-century has continued to rise and its connection to minimalism and the incorporation of natural materials is a core feature that fuels its following. It’s the perfect style for a casual lifestyle in open floor plans.
Get the look with things like:
- Use natural materials for feature furniture, e.g. timber.
- Pair unique curved or rounded couches and armchairs with more angular or geometric coffee tables, light fixtures, and artwork.
- Aim for simplicity.

Scandi
Scandinavian design is about combining beauty, simplicity and functionality. The harsh climates of northern Europe, particularly in the winters, had long influenced the Scandinavian people to take pride in practicality, far above decoration, and simplicity would follow naturally as part of that equation.
Get the look with things like:
- Aim for neutral interiors with pops of colours.
- Warm-toned low-hanging lighting.
- Unique art and furnishing.
